Sri Lanka may legalise unnatural acts

Premanath C. Dolawatte

MP Hon Premanath C. Dolawatte

Western-funded immorality is not just affecting Africa and the Caribbean. If gay rights activists and foreign governments have their way, Sri Lanka could legalise unnatural acts, alien to family, culture, decency and the eternal laws of the Almighty:

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Article 365 of the Sri Lankan Penal Code, which dates from the time of colonial British Ceylon, like its Kenyan (Art 162) equivalent, criminalizes ‘carnal intercourse against the order of nature’. Article 365A prohibits gross indecency. The former offence carries a sentence of ten years while the latter is punishable by two years’ imprisonment. The offences follow divine law, but are anathema to modern Western thinking:

Prov 14:12 (cf 16:25) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Private Member’s Bill

Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court has already ruled Art 365 was unenforceable. Following that, parliamentarian and lawyer Premanath C. Dolawatte presented a private members’ bill to parliament in August 2022. According to the Sri Lankan Groundviews news site, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said the government will not oppose the amendment. It has the support of the ruling party and all the commentators say it is likely to be passed by parliament in 2023. But scripture warns the president:

President of Sri Lanks, Hon Ranil Wickremesinghe

President of Sri Lanks, Hon Ranil Wickremesinghe

Prov 16:12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

The Bill proposes to amend Section 365 by limiting the offense to bestiality and to repeal 365A in its totality. One paper said ‘It also states that the intention of the legislature is to no longer punish a person merely because of their sexual orientation.’ But of course the law punishes acts actually committed, not ‘orientations’.

What is Sri Lanka’s destination?

Liberal opinion might be cheering, but it is a universal principle never to embark on a journey unless you are sure of your destination. In this case, we know the destination which that first step of legalising sodomy and gross indecency leads to. It has been mapped out by the UK and the West already. The destination is ever more depravity and assaults on God’s institution of the family as expressed by the Lord Jesus:

Matt 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Sri Lanka’s lawmakers might reflect that being ‘one flesh’, in the full emotional, spiritual and physical sense our Lord implies, is something a pair of gays or two lesbians, lacking between them the complementary physical equipment, can never do.

Sri Lanka welcomes sex tourists?

Western depravity: Leeds Gay ‘Pride’ parade 2023 in the United Kingdom

If the law change goes through, the Bandaranaike International Airport might as well put up a sign in Arrivals saying ‘Sri Lanka welcomes sex tourists’. There will be no end of rich Westerners flooding in to corrupt Sri Lanka’s teenagers, able to hire a local boy for a couple of dollars.

A contributor to TravellerHints said even now: ‘many solo men from Europe, the USA, and the rest of the World … love to feel and taste chocolate brown ladies or boys in the tropical island nation.’ He singles out beaches around Colombo. Sri Lankans may expect a flood of homosexual prostitution. Along with that will be an increase in sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, rectal gonorrhea and syphilis. Scripture says:

Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Gay Marriage and Schools

In addition, Sri Lankans will see explicit Comprehensive Sexuality Education creeping into schools, actively promoting homosexuality and ridiculous ‘gender-queer’ ideologies, with no opt-outs for parents, along with Western-style ‘trans’ pathways for children, including hormone drugs to arrest puberty.

Nor will gay activists be satisfied with the abolition of Art 365A and the reduction of Art 365 to bestiality alone. Almost immediately there will be calls for same-sex ‘marriage’ and anti-discrimination laws to deprive anyone expressing the wrong ideas or thinking wrong thoughts firstly of their jobs and then of their liberty:

Prov 29:27b … he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

There will be social unrest as schools become politicised. They will prioritise gender studies and the promotion of deviant lifestyles over proper education. Just today the press reported on fighting between parents and LGBT activists outside a meeting of the Glendale Unified School District board as it voted for schools to ‘celebrate pride month’. (‘Pride Month’ is June.) Parents do not want their children corrupted, but what can they do legally in woke California?

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Gay Pride parades

Premanath C. Dolawatte’s measure will result in homosexuality becoming ever more visible and aggressive. According to one report , the capital city, Colombo, saw its first ever gay pride march in June 2022. The march was repeated on Sunday 3rd June this year. Canada’s Toronto Star carried an Associated Press report claiming ‘Hundreds of members of Sri Lanka’s LGBTQ+ community paraded through the streets of the capital Colombo on Sunday to mark the Pride month and demand an end to discrimination.’ The picture of the event looked like a couple of dozen activists.

The report went on: ‘The marchers carried rainbow flags and placards calling for a ban of so-called conversion therapies, an end of police harassment of the LGBTQ+ community and equal treatment.’ There is of course no such thing as an ‘LGBTQ+ community’.

Sri Lanka is a nation holding conservative values. The argument is being made that the unrest over the recent imposition of organic farming, which led to an agricultural collapse, has emboldened the gay activists. If the experience of the UK is any guide, a law change will quickly transform the Colombo protest march into in-your-face parades of triumphalism all over the island nation:

Psalm 12:8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

International Pressure

Naturally, Sri Lanka has come under what local news website groundviews.org refers to as ‘urges made by the international community’. These were apparently expressed in November last year ‘by the UN Working Group’ during the fourth cycle of the ‘Universal Periodic Review’ looking at ‘human rights’ in all the UN’s 193 member states.

It should go without saying that sodomy is not stated as a human right in any international document. The liberal Groundviews falls back on what it terms ‘the body of soft law on LGBT+ rights’ and refers to ‘the compendium of Yogyakarta Principles’. There is no ‘soft law’ and the latter is an activists’ shopping list of gay and trans rights dating from 2004. Whilst written in UN ‘Treaty-ese’, it has no legal force and no standing whatsoever in international law.

Job 15:35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

Does Sri Lanka not want the blessing of God?

So where has the pressure for a law-change come from? Clearly, Sri Lankan citizens are not calling for it. Who is behind it? Spoiler: It’s foreign governments, meddling in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. Sri Lanka urgently needs the blessing of the Almighty, but following the wicked and seeking after tainted foreign aid is not the way to achieve it. The Bible expresses a spiritual principle about how to gain the blessing:

Deut 5:33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Even Solomon’s son, the wicked king Rehoboam, repented of his evil plans, and this was the result:

2Ch 12:12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

According to the latest figures Sri Lanka is 70.2% Buddhist, 12.6% Hindu, 9.7% Muslims and 7.4% Christian. There are no doubt other things to put right. But spitting in the face of God will not help Sri Lanka recover from its financial woes and its recent organic farming debacle. Do not Sri Lankan MPs want things to go well?

UK and US fund propaganda

One UK-based NGO, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), boasts on its website that it funded a series of pro-LGBT short fictional propaganda films. These, it says, ‘premiered in the country in late 2021 and will go on tour around the country in 2022.’

Furthermore, the project was ‘funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and implemented in partnership with Kaleidoscope Trust (KT).’ So we see the UK Foreign Office interfering in the affairs of a sovereign country.

Foreign-funded pro-gay NGO, the Sri Lankan-based campaigning ‘Equal Ground’ NGO was a ‘local CSO partner’ in the enterprise. Equal Ground has also been funded by UK-based Sigrid Rausing Trust and GiveOut.org. On the website of the latter, we read: ‘In 2021, GiveOut’s grant will support Equal Ground’s core costs as they continue decriminalisation efforts in Sri Lanka.’

These ‘efforts’ have been targeted at the courts, in what is now known as ‘Strategic Litigation’, or using the courts to force legal change. ‘Strategic Litigation’ is being done by foreign-funded pro-sodomy activists all over the world, not least in Kenya.

As we saw at the start, the Sri Lanka Supreme Court has already fallen.

Trans groups and foreign meddling

The New York-based Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice is funding a Sri Lanka transgender NGO called the ‘Venasa Transgender Network’, which, we are told, ‘came together in 2015’, while the hyper-woke American Jewish World Service says it too is financing Equal Ground.

A pro-trans group calling itself Jaffna Transgender Network (JTN) has also been ‘educating those in their communities on the challenges facing transgender and other LGBTQI+ people’ with financial assistance from ‘Global Communities – working under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Social Cohesion and Reconciliation (SCORE) activity.’

So it appears the United States under President Joe Biden is also engaged in cultural imperialism in Sri Lanka. Mr Biden would take great exception to foreign governments meddling in US politics.

Commonwealth Equality Project

Inside the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

Inside the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

On another page on its website, WFD writes of a separate programme under the Commonwealth Equality Project. A bit of digging unearthed a 2020/21 ‘Call for bids’ under this heading. Its Terms of Reference said: ‘Through the Global Britain strategy, the UK commits to being a strong force for good in the world.’ By ‘good’ they mean promoting sodomy and transgenderism. But Scripture says:

Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

We read: ‘Equality and human rights are central to many cross-Whitehall strategies, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Action Plan, Rules Based International System (RBIS) and Commonwealth Strategy objectives to improve LGBT rights and gender equality.’

UK will subvert nations

UK's then Prime Minister Theresa May

UK’s then Prime Minister Theresa May

It recalled then Prime Minister Theresa May droning on about ‘outdated colonial era legislation’ at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2018. She spun this as a ‘legacy of violence’ without any recognition that such laws reflected and reflect today local laws and customs.

Further, that nations might rather not have gay pride parades in every town, decent people of faith forced out of their jobs and LGBT propaganda forced on five-year-olds, as happens in the UK.

The page said: ‘The Prime Minister made clear that the UK stands ready to support any Commonwealth country wishing to reform outdated legislation which discriminates on the grounds of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.’ Or indeed, that if countries do not wish to go woke with the UK, the UK will work to subvert them anyway by funding local protest NGOs.

Mrs May’s colonialist-era arrogance is breathtaking. She boasts: ‘UK funded programmes, delivered in partnership with experts in the field (ie: local UK-funded NGO’s – ed), have delivered successful outcomes … including through removing or amending discriminatory laws.’ The UK also has form here on the matter of promoting abortion:

Prayer

John Keells PLC’s involvement notwithstanding, the campaign to decriminalise homosexual acts in Sri Lanka is driven by foreign money and Western influence. The local NGOs, of whom Equal Ground is clearly the biggest, are foreign-funded and undoubtedly should be classed by Sri Lanka as foreign agents.

PRAY that Sri Lanka does not become the latest developing nation to fall for the LGBT lie. Scripture says:

Jer 51:7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Babylon may be taken as a metaphor for any antichrist world system. It can apply to Western hegemony today. Indeed, after the time of Jeremiah, and in the time of Daniel, the king of Babylon made this profound statement:

Dan 4:37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

So let us pray that those like Hon Premanath C. Dolawatte and John Keells chairman Krishan Balendra will repent of their evil promotion of what God hates, for it is written:

Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Sadly, people have been getting away with it for years in Sri Lanka already.

    1. Thanks for that comment while enables us to explain that is precisely not the point.
      This is the point:
If a nation legalises sodomy it puts the whole nation, not merely that individual, in rebellion from God.
Same with abortion, or any other crime, murder, for instance.
Legalise it, or remove Biblical penalties, and the nation is complicit.

    Stephen,
Sri Lanka is my motherland. I am so sad to read what is happening in my country, where politicians & businessmen are willing to go down this road, just to benefit financially. It is mainly a Buddhist country. Strange that the Christians & Buddhist are not protesting at what is happening.
It’s only prayer that can change the situation.

    1. Thank you for that, Dileeni. Pray the Lord raises up people in Sri Lanka, and if hyou know of any, put them in touch with us.
